A little over a year later: August 23, 2026 Summer tips over once again into fall.
The first red leaf appeared on that very same location of the very same tree. Ellie spotted it from the 2nd floor window and asked if we could go outside and pick it. I tried to explain to her that when we got outside, the leaf was going to be much higher up and probably out of reach, but she didn't see it that way and remained hopeful.
Gerry accompanied us and it turns out that even in recovery from a recent hip replacement, he was able to reach up with a rake and pull the branch into Ellie's reach so that she could pick the leaf! Overjoyed is an understatement!
