A Month or Two at Least

This photo is from exactly 1 yr, 11 months ago:
November 25, 2024
As of today -- October 25, 2026 -- all of those leaves
remain green, but the change is soon to come!

"Leaves fell, she watched them drop off, curl down and lodge in a bed of grass, still heavy with moisture, they were falling all around her, simple and unceremonious; for a month or two at least, a cool and lovely autumn." (197)
Edna O'Brien (1930 - 2024)
from the novel August is a Wicked Month

“And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be
are full of trees and changing leaves
.” (166)

Virginia Woolf (1882 - 1941)
To the Lighthouse
Woolf is quoting from the poem
“Luriana, Lurilee”
by Charles Elton (1839 - 1900)
A Day in Autumn

It will not always be like this,
The air windless, a few last
Leaves adding their decoration
To the trees’ shoulders, braiding the cuffs
Of the boughs with gold; a bird preening

In the lawn’s mirror. Having looked up
From the day’s chores, pause a minute,
Let the mind take its photograph
Of the bright scene, something to wear
Against the heart in the long cold.

Ronald Stuart Thomas (1913 – 2000)
