    16 Random Things About Me
Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 16 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 16 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

    1. I love the St. Louis Cardinals; always have, always will. And if I only have to win one game, today, and nothing else matters - and I can have any pitcher who ever lived - give me Bob Gibson.

    2. Going back to seminary when I was 20+ years older than most of my classmates gave me a bunch of younger friends, who help me keep my life and my faith in perspective.

    3. I really hope God's plan for my life includes pastoring a church again someday.

    4. I LOVE CHRISTMAS! (Well, except for the mob mentality at the stores, and insatiable American desire for more and more extraneous stuff.) I love the food, the music, the movies, the food, the parties, the friends and family gatherings, did I mention the food? I love midnight mass and the Nativity narrative read from the KJV of Luke's Gospel (it's just not Christmas if the shepherd's aren't 'sore afraid'), and the idea of the Incarnation. When you're a kid, Santa is magic, and the baby in the manger is a nice story. When you're older, Santa is a nice story, and God lying in the manger is INCREDIBLE. The best thing about that transition in perspectives? Christmas never, ever loses its wonder.

    5. I really love my siblings. There were six of us, so life at our house may have been lots of things, and not all of them good. But it was never, ever dull. And as I grow older and our relationships mature, I love and appreciate them more than ever. I think it's that thing about them being the only ones who share my history. But, I don't tell them enough, so... Dave, Peg, Kit, Di, A...I really, really love you guys!

    6. I never knew what unconditional love was...never knew without a doubt that I would absolutely trade my life for someone else's... until Anna and Sara were born.

    7. The older I get, the more I love and appreciate my parents.

    8. The older I get...is there a theme here...the more I value reconnecting with my college and high school friends. I think it's that shared history thing again.

    9. I play guitar and sing with a bunch of other guys about my age. I'd love to take a year off from life, go on the road, and play for free for anyone who cared to listen. We'd call ourselves "Old Farts Living the Dream".

    10. I've reached the point in life where I care far less about how much I invest in my retirement account, than I care about how much I invest in my friends and family.

    11. I reject the American mantra, "He who dies with the most toys win." I prefer Thoreau, instead, and have tried to live accordingly: "I have made myself rich by making my needs few."

    12. I'm a socialist. For those of you who doubt your ability to reach this Nirvana of political thought, take heart. I was Republican until my early forties.

    13. My sister-in-law makes the best Serbian bean soup in the world...hands down!

    14. I wish I still owned my 1979 Z-28 Camaro. There's something special about your first car. (No, Kit...the college Dart doesn't count.)

    15. I love the Appalachian Mountains, especially the Smokeys, the Blue Ridge, and the Alleghenies.

    16. I need to get off this computer because I'm preparing dinner for 20 South American college kids tonight and I really ought to be in the kitchen.
